Enter detailed parameters based on IEEE 1584 concepts. Calculations remain highly simplified approximations.
Inputs are structured based on parameters from IEEE 1584-2018. However, the actual calculation performed here is NOT IEEE 1584 compliant.
Key Limitations: This tool uses a simplified conceptual formula (IE ≈ (Constant * V * Ibf * t) / Distance²) with the Bolted Fault Current (Ibf). It DOES NOT calculate the actual Arcing Current (Iarc), apply electrode/enclosure/voltage-specific models, correction factors, or iterative steps required by IEEE 1584.
The results are ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY to conceptually show how different inputs might affect outcomes using the simplified model. They MUST NOT be used for safety decisions.
Two Arcing Times: Input fields for 'Normal' and 'Reduced' current times are provided, per IEEE 1584 concepts. This tool calculates IE/AFB for *both* times using the same simplified formula and displays both results for comparison. The higher IE determines the PPE category.
⚠️ WARNING: Calculations are ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY. Inputs mirror IEEE 1584, but the calculation method is simplified and NON-COMPLIANT. NOT suitable for safety, PPE, or labeling. Always consult IEEE 1584/CSA Z462 and qualified engineers.
